Adding second network card to Ubuntu 8.0.10

A good link here

I added a cnet card into my system, it does not show up in ifconfig.

I tried : lspci and see my net card there, ifconfig -a, sees the two, eth1 and eth0

edit /etc/network/interfaces, add following:

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 10.0.0.138
netmask 255.255.255.0

then:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

you can see now eth1 in the ifconfig even without -a.

Change from dhcp to static ip
this works for me
