A. Install ssh server:

B. Setting up Java in Ubuntu 6.06/6.10(works also with ubuntu 7 and 8.0.x)

1. Update first /etc/apt/sources.list
add :
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper universe multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper universe multiverse

then apt update

2. apt-get install sun-java5-bin
apt-get install sun-java5-jdk

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.06
export CATALINA_HOME=/usr/share/tomcat5 // for tomcat 5, can be omitted

• /etc/environment (try this file first)
• /etc/profile

For example, to set a variable called JAVA_HOME and append it to PATH:
for /etc/environment:
JAVA_HOME=”/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun”

(A colon followed by no directory is treated as the current working directory)
PATH=”/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games:$JAVA_HOME:”
for /etc/profile:
export JAVA_HOME=”/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun”
export PATH=”$PATH:$JAVA_HOME:”

The above info can be found : help.ubuntu.com/community/Java
